Jeannie Gordon, RMN, BSc (Hons), PGCE, MA and Executive Director of The Ministry of Parenting, received the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse at an awards ceremony in London on 23 April 2012.

The award celebrates the achievements of nurses who are making a real impact on improvements in patient care, either in people’s homes or within the community.

The Ministry of Parenting was set up in January 2009 to develop innovative ways of supporting parents.  It aims to deliver sustainable outcomes that improve the nation’s health and reduce violence in society.  Ms Gordon is one of a team that provides direct support to parents, trains practitioners and offers consultancy to individuals and organisations to help improve the support they deliver.  The Ministry of Parenting is a tenant of the Colchester Business Centre, which is managed by Colbea and who the Ministry of Parenting are indebted to for business advice, trainings and guidance. The Centre provides office suites for small and growing businesses, with on hand business advice and flexible rental arrangements.

Given by community nursing charity, the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI), the Queen’s Nurse award was reintroduced in 2007 after a gap of 40 years. The reinstatement was, in part, a response to the new challenges facing community nursing and seeks to help safeguard and promote high patient care standards.

Ms Gordon, who lives in Colchester, trained as a psychiatric nurse and has both residential and community experience of working with young children, adolescents and their families.  As well as her director duties, she is an author and mentor.  One of a just 42 nurses from the UK, Ms Gordon was presented with her certificate and QN badge at the Commonwealth Club in London by Professor Jane Salvage, Chair-Designate of the Queen’s Nursing Institute.

Colbea supports young and growing businesses through its two business centres in Colchester, which offer true incubation environments.  For details of vacant office suites contact val.baggalley@colbea.co.uk or phone 01206 548833.
